Gill Schmidt, MD

Born in Kentucky but raised in Michigan, Dr. Schmidt graduated from Albion College in Albion, Michigan and then Wayne State University Medical School in Detroit in 1980.

A Navy scholarship brought him to Virginia where he trained in Internal Medicine at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Five years were spent in the US Navy including serving as Medical Officer, USS TEXAS, CGN-39 and is a recipient of the Navy Commendation Medal for his service in Emergency Services.

Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Schmidt has worked at numerous hospitals in the Hampton Roads area but primarily at Sentara CarePlex and Port Warwick. Dr. Schmidt has also worked as a Staff ED Physician at the Hampton VA Medical Center.

Dr. Schmidt also graduated from William and Mary, College of Law in 1988, and during his career has both practiced law and served as a Vice-President with Sentara.

In his free time, Dr. Schmidt dedicates his passion as an avid athlete, believing that physical fitness is integral to good health and well-being. Focused now on wellness and prevention, Dr. Schmidt joined the staff of Right Path in 2015 and has brought his experience and wisdom to help patients in their fight against addiction.
