A recently retired Navy Medical Corps Commander, Dr. Shimkus is Board Certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Shimkus received her BS from Hahnemann Medical University and her Doctorate from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, NY. Dr. Shimkus then went on to complete her Family Medicine Residency at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, NY. From there, she returned to the active duty ranks as a Family Medicine Physician.
During her tenure with the United States Navy, Dr. Shimkus subsequently earned her MPH from The University of Virginia, certified as a Flight Surgeon and completed a second residency in Aerospace Medicine.
When she was not deployed with the Navy, Dr. Shimkus volunteered at several community medical clinics providing medical care to those unable to afford care. During this time, she realized the depth of various chemical addictions afflicting the patients, their families and community. Her favorite quote by Carl Bard, “Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending“.
Dr. Shimkus joined the medical staff at Right Path Treatment Centers in 2017.
She spends her free time between Lewes Del and Chesapeake, VA writing, biking and playing music with her daughter Devyn and doggie Hunter.
